Have you ever thought to yourself wouldn't it be nice to be someone else for a day?  How do you feel about being able to create whatever you wanted?  Want to cause a little bit of mischief with no serious consequences?   That is what it's like being a Roleplay Gamer.  These are gamers that enjoy taking on a role inside the games or watching others fulfill a role, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a RPG or MMO.

It can be a very personal and social experience, or not.  You're able to set up the boundaries or rules of the role you take in the game.  The Roleplay Gamer is perhaps the most rare out of the 4 categories.  Some of them play games just as much and sometimes more than even the Hardcore Gamers.  Here are the 3 types of Roleplay Gamer:

Dreamer

Almost like having a dream you are in a world of myth and magic.  A land in peril, you are the chosen hero of legend.  Prophesied nearly 1000 years ago that you would take the sword of deep stabbing and slay the evil dark wizard lord.  As the Dreamer you'll immerse yourself in this story almost as if you have become that hero of legend.

Challenge will take a back seat as long as the game has a great story.  Lots of lore and back-story help make the world more believable for you.  The characters also have to be believable, lots of character development is important.  These are things the Dreamer looks for when they want to play a good game.

It's fun for them to escape from the real world for a while and enjoy a fictional world.  Even better when they can become part of the story and determine the outcome.  The Dreamer will sometimes engage in role-playing when they play a game.  It's something they are very good at and will come natural.

Not all dreamers are role-players though.  Dreamer's like a story that will keep them guessing and that peaks their curiosity.  The Dreamer also wants to have some type of gameplay or else they might as well just go watch a movie or read a book.  It's just more important for the game to pull you away from the real world, if only for a day.

Creator

Sure playing games is fun and all, but what if you could make your own?  The first thing the Creator likes to look for in a game is what they can customize in it.  Sometimes cosmetic things are good enough, like being able to create your character.  Creator's want it to have a lot of options: hairstyle, clothes, face, race, voice, etc.  Creating the best looking character you can is all in a days work for a Creator.

Creators like it when a game lets you create your own content.  After all they have a lot of great ideas on how to make things better.  Sometimes they might not always have the skills to understand coding, but they do what they can.  Some Creators are very talented and make mods and whole games for the community.

Others are more casual about it.  They just enjoy being able to customize the experience in some way.  Games like: The Sims, LittleBigPlanet, Minecraft, and Second Life are right up their alley.  Those games let you easily customize and create games to share with everyone.  Creators gain satisfaction in knowing that they made that boat and other people think it's awesome.

Antagonist

My nemesis, the bain of my existence; the Antagonist!  You guys are bastards!  You know it too, that's what you're going for after all.  Antagonist purposely play a game just to piss people off.  You're always the guy doing the team killing in FPS'ers.  Maybe you're that guy that's always ganking lowbies in that MMO.

To them it's fun to push people's buttons and see their reactions.  Antagonist take pleasure in their misery, it's entertainment for them.  Not all Antagonist's are that sinister (some of them are right handed too j/k) lighthearted mischief is all they want to do.  They might tease you a little bit before they move on to the next victim.

An Antagonist will also try to break any rule they can in a game if they can get away with it.  Anything to give them that extra edge to rub in your face.  It's almost as if they are trying to antagonize the game itself!
